It was a perfect June day. You know the kind of day when you can feel the warmth of the sun on your face. You can smell the blossoms in the air. Flowers are starting to bloom and when you look at the sky, you just know this is it…the day you need to stop whatever you are doing and go and explore the world with your camera. You run for your camera and then you realize that you need someone to be the model…so I called my niece Rachel. Now it’s not everyone who will drop what they are doing and just come because I thought it was a perfect day!
“Oh it’s such a perfect day
And I’m glad I spent it with you.”
When I was young I always dreamed of having a music box with a little pink ballerina dancer inside. I think I found the little music box dancer that I was always wanted…
And she comes with just enough attitude to make my day!
One of my favourite things to do is to be with kids. There is nothing like looking into the eyes of a child or listening to the magical sound of a giggle. They can brighten up your entire day. Children are sunrise and moon glow. They are sunshine and lollipops. (All right, maybe not all the time.)
But, if it weren’t for kids…
“We’d all live in a quiet house
With out Big Bird or Mickey Mouse
And kool aid on the couch
Thank God for kids.
Thank God for kids, there’s magic for a while
A special kind of sunshine in a smile
Do you ever stop to think or wonder why
The nearest thing to heaven is a child.”
~The Oakridge Boys
These two sisters are pure magic and they definitely are a special kind of sunshine.
Today is our son Matthew’s birthday! Our world is a better place because of Matt. Those of you that know him, know what I mean.
In Matt’s world you can never have too many hugs. Every morning should start with a hug and end with at least ten!
Every day is a great day! If you tell Matt to have a great day, he replies, “Mom, I always have a great day!” And then he smiles…
He has taught us so many things about what is really important in life – its not about what you have. It’s not about where you are going and when you will get there. It’s all about living life to the fullest and at the top of your lungs. Yes, some volume knobs go to eleven. Especially when he is watching a Rider game. Family and friends are everything to Matt.
“When I see him smile
It fills me up with gladness,
He’s sunshine and he’s laughter all combined.
He picks me up, he cheers me through the bad times.
A wondrous thing, my son and I.”
Today is Amanda’s birthday. Amanda has the most beautiful eyes. Her eyes are the window to her soul. I have seen her eyes laugh and cry, fill with love and tears, shine with excitement or darken with despair. They reflect emotion, intelligence and her life experiences. Her eyes are a window not only to her soul, but also to all the love that she has for life and those around her.
“In my daughter’s eyes,
Everyone is equal,
Darkness turns to light,
And the world is at peace,
This miracle god gave to me,
Gives me strength when I am weak,
I find reason to believe,
In my daughter’s eyes.”
How would you describe your best day? For me… its spending time with kids.
I spent a wonderful afternoon with these two! They climbed and played on the wall, ran through the leaves, and discovered something new in every leaf and stone.
“I don’t know why all the trees change in the fall
I know you’re not scared of anything at all
Don’t know if Snow White’s house is near or far away
But I know I had the best day
With you today”
When a child is born, our entire world has to shift and make room for this new little person. There are so many things we want to say, but for now…
Goodnight my angel, it’s time to sleep
And still so many things I want to say
I promised I would never leave you
Then you should always know
Wherever you may go, no matter where you are
I never will be far away
